I want you to picture a recording studio. Standing right in front of the microphone is this 13 -year -old girl. She is there to record this really bouncy, infectious holiday tune. Right, basically just a middle schooler.
She is 11 years old and she turns down a $30 paying gig on a Georgia radio station. Which, you know, considering her family lived on $20 a week is a huge sum of money to walk away from. But she walked away because she heard that Red Foley, who was a massive country music star at the time, was bringing a promotional tour of his TV show, The Ozark Jubilee, to Augusta.
- Her origin story is entirely different from those guys
- Literally fighting to survive from her first breath
- At one point, after her father broke his arm, they actually had to live in a car for a time
- This isn’t just a story about a talented singer who made it. This is a story about survival
- Instead of playing, she enters the talent contest that Red Foley is judging
