The Only Three Life Hacks I Trust

Life hacks. I have exactly three that have survived contact with actual life, and I trust them the way I trust gravity.

One: buy the same pack of socks forever, so a missing sock in the dryer is not a crisis, it’s just inventory. Two: whenever I’m dreading a task, I do it for two minutes, because momentum is basically a con I run on myself and it works every time. Three: I keep a running list titled “things I will forget by 9pm,” which is really just my brain admitting it has a leak and building a bucket instead of fixing the pipe.

Everything else people call a life hack is a chore with better lighting. Freezing grapes is not a hack, it’s a decision you made about grapes. Real hacks lower the number of decisions you have to make, not add a new ritual to maintain.

So that’s mine: sameness, momentum, and admitting defeat early. My life isn’t optimized. It’s just triaged well.
