The Secret Isn’t Willpower, It’s Logistics

My best healthy eating habit is one nobody asked about: I keep vegetables in the front of the fridge and everything fun in the back, behind a jar of pickles nobody has opened since 2019. Out of sight works better than willpower every time.

I also drink a full glass of water before I decide I’m hungry, which sounds like something from a wellness newsletter but genuinely cuts my snacking in half. Turns out a lot of cravings are just thirst wearing a disguise.

The real secret, though, is cooking enough on Sunday that Wednesday me doesn’t have to make a single decision. Wednesday me is not to be trusted. Wednesday me would order three tacos and call it self-care.

So it’s not discipline, it’s logistics. I’ve just made healthy the path of least resistance and let my worse instincts stay comfortably lazy.

Turns out the secret to eating well isn’t willpower. It’s outsmarting yourself before you wake up hungry.
