What’s the Best Advice You’d Give to Someone Younger Than You?

The best advice I’d give to someone younger than me is simple: show up for the people you care about.

It sounds obvious, but I think it matters more than almost anything else.

Life gets busy. People get tired. Everyone has their own problems, schedules, distractions, and excuses. And it is easy to assume the people you love already know you care about them. But care is not just a feeling. It has to become action eventually.

Show up.

Call when you say you will. Go to the thing. Check in when someone is having a hard time. Celebrate the good news. Sit with them in the bad news. Be the person who can be counted on, not just when it is convenient, but when it actually matters.

That does not mean saying yes to everything or losing yourself trying to be available to everyone. Boundaries matter too. But for the people who really matter to you, do not let laziness, pride, or distraction become the reason they wonder where you were.

Because looking back, I do not think people remember every perfect thing you said.

They remember who showed up.

They remember who made time. Who listened. Who stayed. Who made them feel like they were not carrying life by themselves.

So that is the advice I’d give: be present for your people.

It is one of the simplest ways to love someone, and one of the easiest things to regret not doing.
