I’d choose Harry Potter.
Not permanently, because let’s be honest, that world has a suspicious number of life-threatening situations for a place with candy frogs and floating candles. But for one month? Absolutely. I would want the full experience.
I’d want to walk through Diagon Alley for the first time and feel like the world had secretly been bigger than I thought all along. I’d want to see the shops, the wands, the books, the owls, the strange little magical objects that probably come with three warnings and no refund policy. I’d want to ride the Hogwarts Express, eat in the Great Hall, explore the castle, and immediately get lost in some staircase situation I was not emotionally prepared for.
What I love about the Harry Potter universe is the sense of discovery.
There is always another room, another spell, another secret, another little piece of magic hiding in an ordinary thing. A train station becomes a doorway. A school becomes a castle. A sport becomes something played in the sky. Even dinner becomes an event.
And honestly, with the upcoming HBO series, I’m excited to experience that world again in a new way. There’s something fun about returning to a fictional universe you already love and wondering how it will feel this time. What will Hogwarts look like? How will the characters come across? What details from the books will finally get more room to breathe?
That is part of why I’d choose it.
For one month, I’d want to live somewhere that makes wonder feel normal. Somewhere mystery is built into the walls. Somewhere the world still has hidden corners.
I would not need to be the hero.
I’d be perfectly happy as a mildly confused background wizard, drinking butterbeer, buying too many books, getting overly invested in house points, and trying very hard not to get involved in anything involving dark magic.
So yes, I’d live in the Harry Potter universe for a month.
Just long enough to feel the magic.
And hopefully short enough to avoid the danger.
